Severs disease (or calcaneal apophysitis) is a disorder in children that causes pain at the back of the heel bone. It is a disorder of the growth plate at the back of the heel bone. This growth plate at the back of the heel bone merges with the main body of the heel bone by the mid-teenage years, so the growth plate or growing area no longer exists.
